The new ISO 56002 Guidance on Innovation Management is written with the common High-Level Structure (HLS) of ISO Management System Standards. It enables the integration of different ISO management systems. ISO 9001 adopted this structure in 2015 and when you look at activities like setting objectives, capturing data, and data analysis these will integrate easily, as will the vast majority of the Innovation Standard.

R2V3 Industry Audit Certification refers to the R2v3 certification — a globally recognized audit-based standard for dependable  electronics reuse, recycling and IT asset disposition (ITAD). It isn’t a generic “industry audit” term; it’s focus is on companies that handle rejected or obsolete electronics and show they meet best practices in environmental, security, legal and operational performance.

What “R2v3” Stands For

• R2 is for  Responsible Recycling
• v3 = Version 3 of the standard, the latest revision developed by Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI), a nonprofit focused on electronics recycling leadership and safety.

Core Purpose of the Certification

R2v3 certification ensures organizations that process end-of-life electronics and IT assets do so in a responsible, secure, and transparent way, significantly reducing environmental harm and data risk.

R2v3 Industry Audit

For R2v3 certification, a facility must approach  an independent third-party audit for  the R2v3 Standard. The audit evaluates whether the organization:

1. Ensures strict data security
   — All sensitive data on devices is securely erased or destroyed.
2. Controls  electronics waste responsibly
   — Priority on reuse before recycling, proper handling of hazardous substances, and full tracking of materials.
3. Complies with environmental and safety laws
   — Adherence to applicable regulations and environmental stewardship.
4. For worker health & safety
   — Proper safety protocols, training, and risk management.
5. Easy foe audit trail and transparency
   — End-to-end visibility in processes and “chain of custody” for materials.

The R2v3 audit includes both core requirements (applicable to all facilities) and specialty process application for specific functions such as data sanitization, testing/repair, brokering, and materials recovery.
