What is brainstorming ?

What is data gathering ?

A major function of Circle is to analyze problems. Usually, before analysis can begin data must be accumulated. This is frequently done by the Circle members. Thus, training in data gathering and sampling techniques is necessary to assure accuracy and save time. Check sheets are convenient and economical ways to collect data.

Pareto analysis is a technique that separates the important few from the many trivial problems. The completed analysis is depicted in graph form with columns arranged in descending order. Each column represents a different problem. The tallest is the one on the left and is the problem that will be solved first because it is the most important.

This is a widely used and popular quality circle technique. A diagram with the appearance of a fish-bone is constructed while the problem is being brainstormed for possible causes. Later, cause-and-effect analysis identifies the most likely cause.

The best plan in the world will fall on its face unless it is properly sold. Several times a year each Circle has to do just that. The members use a presentation setting to make recommendations or provide status to their manager. Their training in presentation techniques includes the basics of public speaking and the fundamentals of preparing and using graphs and charts

Passport of safety of chemical products (or material safety data sheet MSDS) is a document, relating to the form of technical documentation. The above-mentioned document has a single purpose - to inform people about all the characteristics (chemical, biological, radioactive, explosive, etc.) of the substances with which they have to work.

Safety passport and the certificate

MSDS, in contrast to the certificate (Declaration) of conformity does not contain information that the certified chemical products are qualitative or safe. This document also does not indicate the compliance of the certified product characteristics to the regulative document of the Russian Federation. Starting 07th of May 2007, Russia requires a new approval for the custom clearance of Wireless Equipment. Basis on the existing legislation, all companies dealing with these kind of products,( such as wireless camera systems, remote controls, wireless home appliances, car alarm systems, walkie-talkies and other wireless equipment which has a transmitter and receiver) should apply to Radio Frequency Center of Russia and provide a special permission for the delivery of Wireless Equipment beside the GOST Certificate.

Procedure :

1. We should apply officially to the Radio Frequency Center for a certain Wireless Equipment.

2. A physical sample of the subject model is required in Moscow for testing.

3. Radio Frequency Center transmits all applications to the Ministry of Communication of Russia. Every 2 months, a special Commission in the Ministry meet and decide about permissions for applied products and provides the wireless conformity approval.

4. By means of this approval and GOST Certificate, it is possible to ship these kind of wireless products to Russia.

Ranges and types of the technical inspection

Participation during production and tests. The customer, who requires inspection, usually defines the scope of the inspection activities and tests according to its procedures. DCS-LL-C then checks compliance with the documents delivered by the customer in the form of approved technical documentation, procedures, and provisions in contracts or as reference to generally available standards. Either an inspection report or certificate on conformity is issued.
Provision of compliance with legislation requirements. Based on basic project submitted by the customer, DCS-LL-C will define additional requirements of legislation requirements of the target country or compliance of the same is reviewed during production, completion or operation tests. This type of service is usually used for supplies where a general contractor dispatches equipment to third country.
Inspection as a bank instrument. We offer inspection of quality, quantity and packaging in cases where the customer makes payment via a letter of credit and a certificate from an independent third party is one of the documents required.

Kaizen Japanese for "improvement", or "change for the better" refers to philosophy or practices that focus upon continuous improvement of processes in manufacturing, engineering, and business management. It has been applied in healthcare,psychotherapy, life-coaching, government, banking, and other industries. When used in the business sense and applied to the workplace, kaizen refers to activities that continually improve all functions, and involves all employees from the CEO to the assembly line workers. It also applies to processes, such as purchasing and logistics, that cross organizational boundaries into the supply chain. By improving standardized activities and processes, kaizen aims to eliminate waste (see lean manufacturing). Kaizen was first implemented in several Japanese businesses after the Second World War, influenced in part by American business and quality management teachers who visited the country. It has since spread throughout the world and is now being implemented in many other venues besides just business and productivity.

The Toyota Production System is known for kaizen, where all line personnel are expected to stop their moving production line in case of any abnormality and, along with their supervisor, suggest an improvement to resolve the abnormality which may initiate a kaizen.

The cycle of kaizen activity can be defined as:

• Standardize an operation and activities.
• Measure the standardized operation (find cycle time and amount of in-process inventory)
• Gauge measurements against requirements
• Innovate to meet requirements and increase productivity
• Standardize the new, improved operations
• Continue cycle ad infinitum

This is also known as the Shewhart cycle, Deming cycle, or PDCA. Other techniques used in conjunction with PDCA include 5 Whys, which is a form of root cause analysis in which the user asks "why" to a problem and its answer five successive times. 5S is the name of a workplace organization method that uses a list of five Japanese words: seiri,seiton,seiso,seiketsu, and shitsuke. Transliterated or translated into English, they all start with the letter "S". The list describes how to organize a work space for efficiency and effectiveness by identifying and storing the items used, maintaining the area and items, and sustaining the new order. The decision-making process usually comes from a dialogue about standardization, which builds understanding among employees of how they should do the work.

1. Sorting (Seiri)

Eliminate all unnecessary tools, parts, and instructions. Go through all tools, materials, and so forth in the plant and work area. Keep only essential items and eliminate what is not required, prioritizing things per requirements and keeping them in easily-accessible places. Everything else is stored or discarded.

2. Stabilizing or Straightening Out (Seiton)

There should be a place for everything and everything should be in its place. The place for each item should be clearly indicated.

3. Sweeping or Shining (Seiso)

Clean the workspace and all equipment, and keep it clean, tidy and organized. At the end of each shift, clean the work area and be sure everything is restored to its place. This makes it easy to know what goes where and ensures that everything is where it belong

4. Standardizing (Seiketsu)

Work practices should be consistent and standardized. All work stations for a particular job should be identical. All employees doing the same job should be able to work in any station with the same tools that are in the same location in every station. Everyone should know exactly what his or her responsibilities are for adhering to the first 3 S''''s.

Maintain and review standards. Once the previous 4 S''''s have been established, they become the new way to operate. Maintain focus on this new way and do not allow a gradual decline back to the old ways. While thinking about the new way, also be thinking about yet better ways. When an issue arises such as a suggested improvement, a new way of working, a new tool or a new output requirement, review the first 4 S''''s and make changes as appropriate.It should be made as a habit and be continually improved.

The Origins of 5S

5S was developed in Japan. It was first heard of as one of the techniques that enabled what was then termed ''''Just in Time Manufacturing''''. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology''''s 5-year study into the future of the automobile in the late 1980s^[2] identified that the term was inappropriate since the Japanese success was built upon far more than components arriving only at the time of requirement. John Krafcik, a researcher on the project, ascribed Lean to the collective techniques being used in Japanese automobile manufacturing; it reflected the focus on waste in all its forms that was central to the Japanese approach. Minimised inventory was only one aspect of performance levels in companies such as Toyota^[3] and in itself only arose from progress in fields such as quality assurance and Andon boards to highlight problems for immediate action.

Total quality management or TQM is an integrative philosophy of management for continuously improving the quality of products and processes.

TQM functions on the premise that the quality of products and processes is the responsibility of everyone who is involved with the creation or consumption of the products or services offered by an organization. In other words, TQM capitalizes on the involvement of management, workforce, suppliers, and even customers, in order to meet or exceed customer expectations. Considering the practices of TQM as discussed in six empirical studies, Cua, McKone, and Schroeder (2001) identified the nine common TQM practices as cross-functional product design, process management, supplier quality management, customer involvement, information and feedback, committed leadership, strategic planning, cross-functional training, and employee involvement.

TQM and Six Sigma

The TQM concept was developed by a number of American management consultants, including W. Edwards Deming, Joeseph Juran, and A.V. Feigenbaum.^[3] Originally, these consultants won few converts in the United States. However, managers in Japan embraced their ideas enthusiastically and even named their premier annual prize for manufacturing excellence after Deming.

The Six Sigma management strategy originated in 1986 from Motorolas drive towards reducing defects by minimizing variation in processes.^[4]

The main difference between TQM and Six Sigma (a newer concept) is the approach.^[5] At its core, Total Quality Management (TQM) is a management approach to long-term success through customer satisfaction.

In a TQM effort, all members of an organization participate in improving processes, products, services and the culture in which they work.

The methods for implementing this approach come from people such as Philip B. Crosby, W. Edwards Deming, Armand V. Feigenbaum, Kaoru Ishikawa and Joseph M. Juran.

New standard EN ISO 50001:2011 – energy management system.  Due to the growing costs of energies and as a result of searching for a new solution within industry a new standard was introduced, focusing on energy management with the objective to reduce costs of companies and overall CO2emissions.

Direct consumption of machines.  Within industrial production an important source of savings consists of optimising energy consumption by production lines, machines and various other equipment. We focus on whether various machines and equipment are not running without use, whether their output is optimised, and whether they are properly adjusted.
Production technology.  Another factor influencing energy consumption is optimisation of technological procedures which means that the same objective (namely a product of identical quality) can be achieved by changing the technological procedure with the objective of saving energies. This does not necessarily involve only the technological procedure itself but work organisation on shifts may be involved as well.
Energy consumption not directly related to production.  Insufficient thermal insulation, lighting system, obsolete ventilation, inefficiently arranged places of work and other drawbacks within auxiliary processes are another potential source of savings.
Attitude of employees.  Training and incentives in favour of employees in order to support meaningful savings provides companies with another positive effect when you consider all the invoices covering energy consumptions.

Analysis of the initial state.  The first step is to find out what the consumption of energy is during various states of operation, shifts and seasons. If it is not entirely detectable, then invest in measuring and monitoring equipment and subsequently analyse the consumption of energy according to individual operations, equipment, buildings. Then create a system of records, which will serve for subsequent monitoring.
Proposals for savings.  Within the scope of energy policies, determining the organisational measures and possibly arising investments would lead to a decrease among the greatest “consumers”, whether it concern debugging a production line, replacing equipment, organising shifts, relocating or heat cladding buildings.
Implementation of measures.  They can be used independently or (which is what we recommend) used in integration with other standards of modern management systems, particularly on the basis of ISO 14001, ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 standards, which can cover the complex management system according to type, size and field of business. Subsequently, a comparison should be conducted with the initial state, whether or not only savings have occurred but also whether other parameters have worsened in the field of quality production or company economics.
External audit.  An audit performed by an independent side can contribute to further energy savings thanks to experience and an objective view.

Energy policy (3.2)  The basic element of the entire system, which has to include the status of company management’s commitment to energy management. The energy policy determines the long-term direction of the company. It affects the future company economics. Informally established energy policies lead to future savings in not only energy but also investment funds.
